Vera "Vivian" Gladys Draper

Vera “Vivian” Gladys Van Praagh Draper, 88, of Cary, formerly of Weldon, died Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Wake Medical Center.

Mrs. Draper was born July 1, 1923 in London, England to the late Henry Van Praagh and Mabel Rebecca Phillips Van Praagh.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Chesley “Tick” Draper.

Mrs. Draper was an incredibly courageous woman who followed her heart and came to this country to be with the one she loved. Her motto was” where there ‘s a will there’s a way” . She was full of life , love and happiness, loved people and was very much a social person.  Family was the most important thing in life, you take care of each other and you stick together.

Mrs. Draper is survived by four sisters: Maisie Kruet, Irene Tipton, Doreen Proctor and husband Barrie and Shirley Gee all of Hertsfordshire, England; three daughters: Janice Draper Shearin and husband Bill of Cary, Shirley Draper Benton and husband Tom of Zebulon and Nancy Draper Swaney of Apex; six grandchildren; Nikki Chhabra, Kortney Shearin, Brandis Shearin, Kimberley Benton Pruitt, Blake Benton Norby and Ashley Swaney and nine great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon with Rev. John Gibson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Sunday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home of G.C. and Sallie Rae Warren.

We know that your pain is almost unbearable. Nanny was such a special and precious human being. Only God knows how much she means to our family.
