Shirley Hawkins Morgan

Shirley Hawkins Morgan, 69, of Roanoke Rapids, died Monday, September 26, 2011, at Duke University Medical Center.

Mrs. Morgan was a lifelong member of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a loyal and faithful member of the choir, a member and officer of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church Women, and was also a district officer for Rocky Mount District of United Methodist Women.  She worked for the Gowen family for 43 years.  They were her extended family and her  family would like to thank them for their kindness and generosity during those years.

She was born January 23, 1942, to the late Willis Eugene Hawkins and Lorena Hux Hawkins, and was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Anthony Morgan.

Surviving her is her husband, B. B. Morgan; her son: Gary Morgan and wife, Yvonne, of Littleton; her sister: Faye Pepper and husband, David, of Roanoke Rapids; her brother-in-law: George Morgan and wife, Betty Ruth; her grandchildren: Meagan Perry, Mitch Morgan and Meleah Morgan;  nieces and nephews: Jeffrey Taylor, April Reese and Mike Morgan.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at  4:00 P.M. at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Sid Collins and Dr. Gene Cobb officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 P.M. prior to the service at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church, 6955 Highway 48, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870  or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma, Ok 73123-1718.

To the family... Thank you so much for allowing us to get to know you all and Shirley Morgan. I will never ever forget her kind and gentle spirit. God has surley taken an angel home.
