Selma Garris Wright

 

Selma Garris Wright, 84 passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Guardian Care in Roanoke Rapids.

 

Mrs. Wright was born July 5, 1927 to the late Howard Arthur Garris and Polly Owens Garris in Halifax County and was a lifelong resident of Roanoke Rapids. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband: Simon “Speck” Wright; two brothers: Howard “Goat” Garris and Robert Earl “Pete: Garris; three sisters: Grace Moseley, Annie Bradley and Roxie Garner.

 

Mrs. Wright was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Becky W. Beaver and her husband John of Albuquerque, NM and Roanoke Rapids and Pam Baird and her husband Dickie of Durham, NC; Brother-in-law: Raymond Garner of Roanoke Rapids; three grandchildren: Sean Beaver and his wife Denise, Jennifer Baird and Dickie Baird, II and his wife Natalie; three great grandchildren: Macie Shea Beaver, Wyatt Beaver and Nancy Amaya; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank her special her special caregivers at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids..

 

Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Cedarwood Cemetery with The Rev. Dr. Marjorie Holm officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.

I would like to express my sincere sympathy to the entire Wright Family. Selma and Speck were simply part of my growing up years that make me smile. I will miss Selma's special laugh and her wonderful humor! I will always cherish her memory.
