Ruth Hardison Northington Petteway

Ruth Hardison Northington Petteway, age 94, of Chattanooga formerly of New Bern, NC died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in Chattanooga.

 She was born June 25, 1917 in Weldon, NC to the late Henry and Jessie (Phillips) Hardison and was preceded in death by her husband Robert Rudolph Northington, Sr., who died in service during World War II, husband Nat Stanley Arthur, and brother Alex Hardison. Mrs. Petteway was owner and operator of a beauty salon. She retired from for the New Bern, NC Police Department where she was secretary.

Mrs. Petteway was a life member of the United Methodist Women, and active playing a variety of musical instruments.

Survivors include a son Robert Rudolph Northington; a daughter Jessie (Bruce) Hutchinson; sister Katherine Hardison Boone; grandchildren Eric Hutchinson, Travis Hutchinson, Shanna Hutchinson, and Jonathan Grizzlo.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:30 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Gooden officiating.

The family will receive friends at Funeral Home Friday from 2-3:30.

Graveside services will be 2:30 P.M. Monday, July 18, 2011 at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC; The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service. Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of local arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America 292 Madison Ave., 10th floor, New York, NY 100117
