Robert "Bob" Ashby

Robert Wayne (Bob) Ashby, Sr., 79, of 1401 Marshall Street, Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at UNC Chapel Hill Cancer Center.

 

 

Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He loved golf and spending time with family.  He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church which he loved very much.  He was a graduate of North Carolina State with a degree in Engineering.  He also served during the Korean War and was an active member of the Exchange Club.

He was born May 8, 1931, in Germanton, N. C. to the late Henry Oliver Ashby and Ida Lou Manring Ashby.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Annie Ashby, and his brothers: Posey Reid Ashby, Odell Ashby, Joel Ashby and Thomas E. Ashby.

He is survived by his wife of more than 31 years, Carolyn F. Ashby; his children: Lynne Harris and husband, Rev. Ronnie Harris, and Robert W. Ashby, Jr. “Robbie” and his wife, Deborah; his grandson, Joseph Glenn “Joey” Harris and his wife, Courtney; two step-grandchildren, Hannah and Audrey; great-grandchildren: Ashlyn and Isaiah Harris; his sisters, Irene Ashby Hampton, Ida Mae Ashby Martin, Wanda Ashby Spainhour and her husband, Thurman, Mary Hazelwood Wade and her husband, Wallace; brother, Chester Monroe Ashby, and sister-in-law, Armin Hamrick Ashby; and his many special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M., Friday, Mary 14, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements, and other times at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 15, at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Martin and Rev. Ronnie Harris officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Calvary Baptist Church, 1405 Bolling Road, Roanoke Rapids, N. C. 27870.

We love you Carolyn and we are praying for you and your entire family.We loved Bob so very much. He was a great man as I am sure you already know. He always made our family feel so loved and special. It was a blessing to know him. We will miss him dearly.
