Mabel Banty Godsey

Mabel Banty Godsey, 63, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in Community Memorial Health Center, South Hill, Va.

Mabel was born in Halifax County, NC September 15, 1948 to the late Jesse Claude Banty and Gertrude Lottie Johnson Banty.  She worked as a caregiver and was an avid bingo player and loved racing.  Preceding her in death are three brothers, Thomas Banty, Rudolf Banty, and Freeman Banty.

Surviving are two sisters, Louise Poythress of Gasburg, VA and Elizabeth Poythress of Roanoke Rapids; one brother, Jesse Banty and wife, Linda, of Weldon.  Also surviving is a special friend, “Bro” Clary of Gasburg, VA, several nieces and nephews and two cats, Silver and Brownie.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 6-8 pm and all other times at the home of Louise Poythress, 5899 Gasburg Rd., Gasburg, VA.

A graveside service will be Friday, January 6, 2012 at 2:00 pm in Crestview Memorial Cemetery. Greg Hand, Minister will officiate.
