Joseph Thomas Moore, Sr.

ROANOKE  RAPIDS, N. C

Joseph “Joe” “ Jody”  Thomas Moore, Sr. , 94, of 123 Western Drive, Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Moore retired from the United States Navy after 22 years in 1967, and from Fulflex in Scotland Neck after 17 years.  He was a member of the Roanoke Rapids Church of God where he loved playing the drums.

Mr. Moore was born July 5, 1917, to the late David Oscar Moore and Julia Martha Brown Moore.  He was also preceded in death by  his sisters: Cora Elizabeth Moore, Mable Chessie Coburn, Martha Delphia Moore, Mary Elizabeth Moore, and Lillie Butler Bradshaw; three brothers: Posie Linwood Moore, Raymond Oscar Moore and David Raymond Moore; one son: Raymond Leroy Moore; one grandson: Eugene Brent Hardy; and Pauline Gums Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Josephine “Jo” Harris Conwell Moore;  his children:  Joseph Thomas Moore, Jr. and wife, Gayle, of Ahoskie;    Paula Diane Smith and husband, Wayne, of Scotland Neck; David Michael Moore and wife, Shirley of Ahoskie; and Murray Gene Moore and friend, Brenda, of Roanoke Rapids ; his step-children: David Wayne Conwell of Youngsville, N. C. and Kelvin Michael Conwell, of Pilot, N. C.;  his daughter-in-law, Hilda Moore; his sisters: Ada Bliss Kirkland, of Weldon, and Annie Gertrude Hale, of Carrollton, Virginia; his grandchildren: Raymond Leroy Moore, Jr. and wife, Kathy; Teresa Diane White; Johnny Eugene Moore; Susan Jeanette Kokorsky and husband, Max; David Wayne Moore and wife, Mary; Thomas Earl Moore and wife, Ann; William Russell Moore and wife, Melissa; Joseph Thomas Moore, III, and wife, Kim; Eugene Brent Hardy and wife, Kay; William David Smith and wife, Jennifer; Lisa Marie Moore; Angela Michelle Morris and husband, Clifford; Elizabeth Dawn Moore; and Christopher  Dennis Moore; his great-grandchildren: Darrell Brandon Moore; Kara Louise  Moore; Sammy Kitchen Edwards, Jr.; Rebecca  Nicole Edwards  and husband, Craig; Johnathan Moore Edwards; Brandon Michael White; Bryan Mathew White; Patrick Dale White; Derek Jason Moore; Robert Kyle Kokorsky; Kristina Rene Kokorsky; Nicole Allen Moore; Elizabeth Nicole Moore; Timothy Michael Moore; Thomas Paul Moore; Katelyn Javana Moore; Victoria Judith Moore; McKenzie Ori-Mae Moore; Alexander Marie Moore; William Russell Moore, Jr.; and David Carter Smith; his great-great-grandchildren: Laren Alexia Boyd; Kaitlyn Maire Boyd; Taylor Moore and Maggie Moore; and his daughter-in-law, Hilda.

The family will receive friends on Friday,  November 25, 2011, from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements and other times at the home, 123  Western Drive.

Funeral services will be held at the Roanoke Rapids Church of God on Saturday, November 26, at the Roanoke Rapids Church of God  at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Michael Mooneyham officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in  Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
