Joan Ellis Birdsong

Joan Ellis Birdsong, 68, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Community Memorial Healthcenter in South Hill, Virginia.

Mrs. Birdsong was born July 21, 1942, to the late Edward Clinton Ellis and Dorothy Kidd Ellis of Gasburg, VA.  She was also preceded in death by  her brother and sister-in-law, Gwyn Ellis and Nancy Ellis of LaCrosse, VA.

She  is survived by her husband, Bobby Birdsong, of the home; her daughters, Luci B. Spence and husband, Ben, and children Kelci and Rymon Spence of Brodnax , Virginia, and Kelli B. Cifers and husband, Harvey, Jr., and children Ciara and Hunter Cifers of Emporia; and special devoted friends, Al Joyner and Connie Scott.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Minister Greg Hand officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements, and other times at the home, 1451 E. Chaloner Drive. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to South Rosemary United Methodist Church, 108 Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
