Iona Shaw Rogers

Iona Shaw Rogers, 95, died at her residence on Sam Powell Dairy Road, Friday, August 20, 2010.

Mrs. Rogers was born in Halifax County, April 29, 1915, to the late Joseph S. Shaw and Lula Mae Powell Shaw.  She was a homemaker and faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Abbie W. Rogers; daughter, Martha Williams and three brothers, Woodrow, John, and Jessie Shaw.

Surviving Mrs. Rogers is her son, Herbert Rogers; one daughter, Patricia R. Tippett and husband Ed; three sisters, Betty S. Morris, Sadie S. King, and Marjorie S. Shaw, and a special son-in-law, Dick Williams and wife LaVonne, all of Roanoke Rapids.  Also surviving is her grandson, Keith Williams and wife Dawn and a great-granddaughter, Abbie Williams, all of Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 22nd from 3 to 4:30 PM at Hockaday Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Monday, August 23rd at 3:00 PM.  Officiating will be Rev. Adam Speight and Kenneth Brantley.  Interment will follow in the Powell Family Cemetery.
