Helen Oliver Vinson

Helen Oliver Vinson, 71, of 155 Driftwood Lane, Roanoke Rapids, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids.

 

 

Mrs. Vinson was the world’s best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great cook.

She was born January 9, 1939, to the late Leonard Oliver and Mildred Parrish Oliver.  She was also preceded in death by her husbands: Bobby E. Turner, Sr. and Elijah Lee Vinson; her sisters: Barbara Harris and Christine Oliver; her brother: Richard Oliver.

She is survived by her sons: Bobby E. Turner, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Roanoke Rapids, Jimmy D. Turner and wife, Judy, of Asheville, and  Joseph N. Turner and wife, Barbara, of Oak City;  her daughter: Joyce T. Doughtie and husband, Wesley, of Roanoke Rapids, her brother: Leslie Ray Oliver and wife, Ann, of Roanoke Rapids; her sister, Nancy Powers and husband, Kenny, Sr., of Roanoke Rapids; eleven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 11:00 A. M. in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation service which is handling the arrangements, conducted by Rev. Maurice Wheat and Rev. Bobby Turner.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, May 3, 2010, from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mario Fiorilli and the staff of Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids  for the excellent care they provided for their loved one.
