Elizabeth Wheeler Fitts

Elizabeth Wheeler Fitts, 84, of Shell Street, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Fitts was a meticulous homemaker and loved keeping her home and everything else as neat as a pin.  She loved traveling, telling jokes and joking with people.

She was born September 28, 1927, to the late Garland Wilson Wheeler and Sarah Carpenter Wheeler and was also preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Duke Fitts and her daughter, Trudy Fitts Allen; her sister, Mary Nellie Seward; two brothers, Harry Gene Wheeler and Leon Earl Wheeler, and a special niece, Penny Jennings.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Jack Allen, of Roanoke Rapids; her brothers: Wilson Wheeler and wife Sarah, of Roanoke Rapids, and Frank Wheeler and wife, Joan, of Halifax; her sister: Mary F. Johnson; several nieces and nephews and special nieces, Tonya Gray, Ann Bromby and Emily Luter; her step-granddaughter, Dana Allen; her God children, Christopher Wheeler, Matthew Wheeler; great God Son: Jacob Wheeler; adopted grandkids: Tyler Calderon and Nathanuel Calderon; special caregivers that she dearly loved: Jaime Calderon, Tammy Strickland, and Tonya Claiborne; special friends: Alice Birdsong and Alice Tanner.

Graveside services will be held at Cedarwood Cemetery on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. conducted by Rev. Randy Martin.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 to 12:30 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Roanoke Rapids Church of God, 1017 Rapids Street, Roanoke Rapids, N. C. 27870.
