Edna Scott Mitchell

Edna Scott Mitchell, 90, of Laurel Glen Apartments, died Tuesday, September, 20, 2011, at her home.

Mrs. Mitchell was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, having sung in the choir, made sure there were flowers in the church, played the piano for the church children, and cleaned the church for years.  She had a host of friends at Laurel Glen, especially her card playing buddies.

She was born May 10, 1921, to the late William B. and Mamie Bell Scott.  She was also predeceased by her husband, William Henry Mitchell; one brother, William, and two sisters, Jean and Lorraine.

Surviving her are her sons: Steve Mitchell and wife, Jill, of Wilmington, N. C. and Rick Mitchell of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two daughters: Margaret M. Maurer and husband, Chris, of Phenix City, Alabama, and Sharon M. Equihua and husband, Gonzalo, of Rocky Mount; two sisters: Florence Constatino of Henderson, Nevada, and Peggy Borrell and husband, Paul, of Richmond, Virginia; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 22, 2011, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Friday, September 23, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. conducted by Rev. Adam Speight and Rev. John Rowland.  Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
