Edgar Smallwood Willey

Edgar Smallwood Willey, 87, of Roanoke Rapids, died Friday, June 18, 2010.

Mr. Willey was a native of Halifax County, North Carolina, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Claude and Annie Willey.

He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.

Mr. Willey is survived by his wife of 65 years, June Willey.  Other survivors include one daughter, MeLinda and her husband, Darrell Hite, of the home, a son, David Willey of Roanoke Rapids, two granddaughters, Ann Marie and her husband, Brad Lassiter, of Wilmington, Jessica and her husband, Eric Russ, of Rocky Mount, one great-grandson, Christian Lassiter, one brother Luther Willey and his wife, Bernice, of Suffolk, Virginia, and cousins,  Inez Gardner  and Mary Louise Carlisle of Weldon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marcus, Ruffin, and Ferrell, and two sisters,  Edna and Pearlie.

Mr. Willey was retired from the Federal Government.  He proudly served in the US Army Air Force during World War II.  He was a member of  Good News Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 4:00 P.M. Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Hockaday Funeral  & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements after which the procession will lead to the graveside service at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon.
